Cuttest Hiccups Ever

Day 3 of the twins' birth was nice and quiet, with only two visitors. There's only a few pictures from the day. We learned early in the morning that Evie might not be able to go home with us on Thursday after all, but only because the doctors are concerned with her weight gain, and nothing to do with her heart directly. If she does need to stay, it should only be for a day or two, and she would still be at Edwards Hospital. She finished all of her feedings today though (which wasn't easy!), so we won't know for sure until tomorrow. However, the good news was that the doctors thought she was doing well enough to remove the IV's she had attached to her umbilical cord arteries.

Otherwise, we spent most of the day feeding one twin or the other. The hardest part of feeding so far is keeping them awake long enough to finish! The NICU nurses warned us that Evie was a "poky eater," and then some! Who knew that feeding was so tiring? She loves to stick out her tongue and spit out half of what we give her.

Sharon and I also spent a good amount of time trying to determine where Evie got her one pointy ear from (yes, just one). We split on either a latent "Vulcan" gene or an affinity to Stellaluna. Of course, the geek in me secretly thinks she's elven. Evie and Galadriel: long lost cousins?

I have two short videos (with sound) for your viewing pleasure. The first is of Evie, who got a case of hiccups during her feeding. They're the cutest hiccups you'll ever hear! I know it sounds odd, but the twins often got the hiccups in the womb (usually Gavin) as a result of amniotic fluid getting into their windpipes. The result? Hiccups! It's more common that one might think! You'd see a rhythmic bumping under Sharon's tummy, or we'd be at the OB's office with a monitor and you could clearly hear them.

The second video is of Gavin just flopping around like a fish (a really cute fish). I was swaddling him after a diaper change and I could barely get a grip on him! It was so precious I just had to capture 20 seconds of it, but I watched him do this for several minutes. He also hates that "house arrest" ankle bracelet that all babies wear (you can see him in the video shaking the ankle that it's on). It sets off an alarm if you remove the babies from the Labor and Delivery section of the hospital. Although I don't know how "fool proof" they are, because he managed to kick his off twice today. It's those long, skinny grasshopper legs! He's going to be a Kung Fu master.

It's been long days at the hospital, but Sharon will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow, so hopefully Evie can come home with the rest of us!

The blog is awesome! I see that you are leaving commentary at all kinds of strange hours! I am hoping that you will be able to keep it up some once the babies are actually home! They look so healthy and wonderful! Love, Misty
