Francis here. It's a bit after midnight and I just got back from spending the Evening with Evie (hmmm, wonder if that would make a good book someday). Anyway, she was doing very well, took a small bottle, and drifted in and out of sleep every hour or so.
Evie was moved off of the PSHU (Pediatric Surgical Heart Unit) this evening and is now on the second floor with the other pediatric patients, which is a good thing, because you don't move unless you're stable. Grandpa Cermak was there during the move (around 6PM) and he reported that she thoroughly enjoyed the wagon ride! You can see that her oxygen tube is gone, as are most of her IV's, but the giant splint on her arm with the last IV is still on.
It is truly remarkable how calm she is when awake. Just four months ago, following her last surgery, it seemed like she cried 23 of 24 hours a day (one of Evie's nurses whom I met this evening distintly remembered that about her!). At one point she seemed to be in a little pain, making small whimpering sounds, so the nurse gave her some Tylenol and I showed her pictures of Gavin and Sharon. When she would wake up, Evie would quietly look around the room, cough a little bit, then fall back asleep; she never cried once.
The now famous Flutter Bye mobile that is a constant at her bedside during hospital stays drowned out the noise of her monitoring machines and the nurses' station that isjust outside her door.
If she continues to do well through the night, it is very likely she'll be discharged on Thursday!
