The day started off well, with the twins helping daddy make sure his shoes were tied (this took quite a while).
First, we made a quick stop to visit some of Francis' friends from when he was a judicial clerk at the courthouse back in 2000. We didn't get any pictures, but the twins say 'hello!' to Marla, Judy and Marge! Then we arrived at Francis' office and the twins couldn't wait to jump out of their stroller to see everyone.

Evie spent a lot of time being passed around to everyone (but that's only because she's the lightest!). Gavin was a little shy, but did a lot of exploring.

Tom G. offers Gavin a water bottle (his new favorite "toy"; more on that in a future post!):
Evie was able to get into some mischief and found her way into one of the storage cubbie holes. Maybe she wanted to sort some files?
Tom D. catches her in the act!
So, she decided to hang out with Tom for a while instead:

Gavin enjoyed a familiar activity from home: pushing chairs around!
Evie takes a short snack break with Mom. Being held by everyone is hard work!
After about an hour, the kids started to get a little fussy and had been up for almost four hours at that point. A shoulder ride calmed Gavin down though, and everyone learned why Francis keeps his hair so short, as Gavin alternated drooling, tugging and drumming on his head.
We had a great time and were thrilled that so many were able to visit with the twins on their first birthday! Thank you to everyone at the SAO for the wonderful gifts and for being such great hosts! I'm sure we'll see you all again soon!
